After gaining some experience of webGIS development during my PhD, I conceptualised and developed a webGIS crowdsourcing platform using GoogleMaps. The aim of the platform was to facilitate collection of geolocalised information about marine activities at the national level. We tested different ways to collect information about places: points, lines or GPS files upload. We used social medias to share the survey, and were very successful, collecting more than 6,000 points and 1,000 lines the first year of data collection. We also used a commercial panel to target a representative sample of the population, and collected a similar amount of points, and twice as many lines.
I described the data collection platform here and the results here.
